Tests to Check for Fertility Issues
Infertility can stem from various factors, including family medical histories or diseases. Reproductive health has several treatment and test options, including ovulation detection kits. Here are some tests to check for fertility issues:
Ovulation Detection Kit
An ovulation detection test measures hormones to determine when a woman is on an ovulation cycle. This test is usually performed at home to help predict when the egg will be released. The test will measure several factors, such as electrolyte levels in salvia and LH levels. Doctors are able to analyze the test results to see if anything is negatively affecting a woman’s reproductive health.
Biopsy Test
A biopsy can help identify and check homorone imbalances. The process involves a thin catheter that passes through the cervix and into the uterus. At the tip of the catheter, a suction-like pull collects cells from the uterine lining. Some patients will experience light cramping, but they can resume daily activities a few minutes after the procedure. The sample goes to a laboratory to be processed and tested for endometrial cells.
Timing is also key, as samples need to be collected after an ovulation cycle, usually within a week. Patients should not be on birth control during the test, or they need to wait for one regular menstrual cycle before scheduling a biopsy. This way, the medication will not affect results.
BCL6 Marker Test
At My Receptiva, we offer a test that identifies endometrial tissue on the uterine lining by looking at the protein marker BCL6. This test helps women determine if endometriosis is the cause of their symptoms, such as pelvic pain. Other symptoms involve infertility, recurrent bladder issues, or undiagnosed abdominal pain. If the test does identify BCL6 markers and inflammation in the uterine lining, it can indicate endometriosis. An early diagnosis and treatment plan will help avoid later complications if detected.
Laparoscopy Procedure
If a patient’s BCL6 result is positive, there’s a higher chance that endometriosis is present, which can be confirmed through laparoscopy. This process involves using a scope inserted through the abdomen to identify endometriosis. Knowing the outcome will allow patients to create a treatment plan, such as hormone suppressants or fertility treatments.
Positive or Negative Results
Whether positive or negative, endometriosis is a complex disease that may be difficult to diagnose without proper testing. Since the endometrial lining of the uterus can also grow outside the womb, some results may come back as normal or inconclusive. This disease may be found in the ovaries, the intestines, or other organs in the abdomen. Using a My Receptiva test and identifying BCL6 markers, we help patients learn whether or not they have this disease.
